The brief.
Lumina is an AI writing assistant for editorial teams. The first version put the suggestions inline — and writers hated it. They wanted the assistant to be present without being in the way. The brief was to redesign the editor around that constraint and ship it in ten weeks.
The approach.
The editor is the document; the assistant lives in a soft-edged margin column on the right. Suggestions arrive as quiet cards that the writer can accept, dismiss, or simply ignore. Nothing in the document changes until the writer clicks.
The outcome.
Acceptance rate on suggestions tripled in the first month after the redesign shipped. The product team has stopped trying to put AI in the middle of the page and started designing for the margin everywhere it matters.
